MAYOR of London Boris Johnson visited the Ealing campus of Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College yesterday.

He met students taking part in the Met Police Community Ambassador Programme.

CAP aims to strengthen ties between the police and the communities they serve.

High-achieving and ambitious students have been given the opportunity to act as ambassadors for the police and will receive mentoring and access to work experience opportunities.

The Mayor talked to them as they worked on their Big Ide' project as part of the i-CAN (Community Ambassador Network) programme.

They were challenged to come up with ways to use their digital, social and media skills to keep themselves, friends and their community safe during the festive period.

Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Stephen Greenhalgh, who accompanied Mr Johnson, said: "It was great to hear their ideas for keeping safe in Ealing."

The mayor and deputy concluded their visit by joining in a game of netball taking place between a team representing the college and one from the police.

Earlier, Mr Johnson was joined by Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe for a walkabout with local officers in Ealing town centre.

They announced details of a deal secured for the New Scotland Yard site in Victoria.
