A NORTHOLT man was jailed for six months for a telephone scam on a retired couple.

Conrad Mukama, 21, of Fontwell Close, admitted conspiracy to defraud a couple from Radlett, Herts, between March and May last year.

The couple were phoned by a man claiming to be a police officer and tricked into handing their bank cards to a courier, to assist with a fake investigation.

Hundreds of pounds were withdrawn from their bank account and the victims alerted police.

Det Con Darren Machin said: “This was a despicable crime as Mukama preyed on the trusting nature of his victims.

“People should be aware the police and banks would never ask you to send your banks cards or money to them in any circumstances.”

Sentencing took place at St Albans Crown Court.
