MORE than 40 young patients from Ealing Hospital Schoolroom took part in an innovative project with Gunnersbury Museum and the Hospital Schoolroom at West Middlesex Hospital.

Using artefacts from the museum's collection, the young patients learned about the development of medical practices and technology from Ancient Egypt up to the present.

Photographs from the Ealing Hospital archives were used to help them think about what hospitals were like for children in Ealing both past and present.

Ania Gedye, Ealing Hospital’s classroom teacher, said: “Being in hospital can be a daunting time for a child.

"We wanted them to reflect on their own experiences of being hospitalised and record their views in a 'feelings book' and on a huge length of 'bandage bunting’.

“They were also given the opportunity to reclaim everyday objects from the ward, like urine bottles, bandages and medicine trays, by making them into sculptures and adding paint and glitter.”

The artwork is displayed in an interactive pop-up museum, currently on level 10 at Ealing Hospital.

The project is ongoing, with the children adding to the display every week
