POLICE searching for 14-year-old Hanwell girl Alice Gross are treating a 41-year-old Ealing man as a suspect in her disappearance.

Latvian builder Arnis Zalkalns went missing a week after Alice was last seen and also used the Grand Union Canal towpath to get to work.

Alice was last seen on CCTV cameras on August 28 by the canal.

Zalkalns served seven years in prison from 1998 for murdering his wife in Latvia, officers have discovered.

Police say he was arrested in Ealing in 2009 for indecently assaulting a 14-year-old girl, but no further action was taken.

Zalkalns was seen on CCTV on August 28, cycling  beside Brentford Lock at 4pm - 15 minutes after Alice walked that route. He was last seen on September 3.

Police have received more than 100 calls to their #FindAlice investigation after an appeal on BBC Crimewatch on Monday.

A reward of up to £20,000 is being offered for anyone with information that leads police to find the missing girl.
