PARENTS and children from Ealing attended an environmental and educational workshop with the star of the popular CBeebies programme Mr Bloom’s Nursery on Sunday.

The event was hosted by Greenredeem, the company behind the Residents’ Rewards Scheme in the borough. Greenredeem works with councils and others to reward people for taking everyday green actions.

During the workshop, children took part in an educational activity with Mr Bloom. to learn about recycling and composting.

They made their own Rotbots, a simple composting method for planting seasonal produce using plastic bottles, food waste and other leftovers.

Visitors also enjoyed Caribbean cuisine from Greenford restaurant SunJam, a rewards scheme partner.

Greenredeem Residents’ Reward, launched in March this year, in partnership with Ealing Council, offers borough residents the opportunity to earn points for recycling and other everyday green actions.

The scheme is designed to support Ealing’s efforts to boost recycling rates across the borough, with an aim to reach a 50% recycling target by 2020, set out by the EU.

Rachel Miller, a communications consultant from Hanwell, attended with her husband Jon and two-year-old daughter Daisy.

She said: “Mr Bloom was a huge hit with my toddler, who watches his shows. She’s looking forward to watching the ‘rotbot’ we made develop over the next six weeks.”

Actor Ben Faulks said: “As Mr Bloom, my job is to encourage and inspire children of all ages with the wonders of our natural environment.”
