Two baby-faced petrol bombers, who admitted letting off a lethal Molotov cocktail in the South Acton estate, will be sentenced next month.

The pint-sized pyromaniacs, who are from Acton and East Acton and are aged just 11 and 12, admitted a charge of attempted arson at Reade Court in Stanley Road on January 29 this year.

The Old Bailey heard on Friday that the youngsters filled a Supermalt bottle with petrol and ignited it in the communal hallway in the densely-populated block of flats. It was only due to the quick-thinking and bravery of one resident who managed to douse the flames that the fire was brought under control and no damage was caused.

The two boys, who were arrested after police enquiries in the area, each denied a similar attack involving another Supermalt bottle at Lawrence Court in the same road on the same day.

Judge Ann Goddard, QC, decided not to transfer the case to the youth court because the delay in switching venues could affect the boys' schooling.

They will be sentenced on September 4.
