Crime was uncontrollable
Oh dear, oh dear. I am almost sorry to contradict Justine Greening's somewhat smug letter about the crime rate under the Labour government.
Under the last Conservative government, my husband and I tried to report a crime to Acton Police Station after a bottle was thrown from a block of flats in Acton Lane at our car, narrowly avoiding the open sun roof and our small child on the back seat and causing us to swerve.
'What do you expect after 14 years of Conservative government?' the demoralised officer said.
And no, he wouldn't take a report as he said there was no point and described the estate the bottle had been thrown from as a 'no-go area' for the police.
So if the crime figures in Ealing were not as high under the Conservatives, our experience suggests one possible cause.
Not so smug now, eh, Justine?
