Sporting gift for disabled children


YOUNG people with disabilities who use The Log Cabin special playground in Ealing will be able to get out and about more easily thanks to The Lord's Taverners.

A specially adapted minibus is being presented to the specialist adventure playground in Northfield Road by the celebrity sporting charity which raises more than £1.6 million per year to "give young people, particularly those with special needs, a sporting chance". The charity annually donates in the region of 52 minibuses to organisations such as The Log Cabin.

The 16-seat wheelchair accessible minibus costing £34,600 was funded by The Evening Standard, which provided free advertising space for The Lord's Taverners, and The Log Cabin which contributed £9,500 towards the vehicle through its own fund-raising efforts.The minibus will be presented to The Log Cabin by Roger Oakley, Chairman of The Middlesex Region of The Lord's Taverners on Tuesday, December 5.

Roger Oakley said: "The Lord's Taverners raise thousands of pounds every year to provide specially adapted sporting equipment for young people to take part in sport and other leisure activities, as well as providing mobility via our minibus programme. It is wonderful to give this minibus to The Log Cabin and help them in their vital work".

The Log Cabin adventure playground provides a service for children with special needs and disabilities between the ages of four and 15 who live or go to school in the borough of Ealing. It is is open all year round and provides nearly 400 children a year with access to after school clubs, holiday play schemes and school sessions. The minibus will be used to transport children to and from the Log cabin and for special outings.
