I recently visited the newly refurbished soft play area at Watford Mencap Children’s Centre. We awarded £3,574 from our Better Communities Fund to refurbish a soft play area at the Children’s Centre in St Albans Road which is used by children with learning disabilities.

The play area takes up a whole room at the Centre and provides a safe environment for children to engage in the "rough and tumble" of active play while also learning how to interact with each other. You can imagine what fun I had playing with the children jumping and bouncing around and using so much energy whilst having a really brilliant time.  The facilities are amazing and the children love the soft play area.

The Better Communities Fund is a £9 million investment programme to fund community improvements in Watford and Three Rivers and was set up when we were established in 2007. The fund has now been fully committed.  However, we are now looking to set up a smaller (£250,000 pa) Community Development Fund – further information in a future blog.
