FURTHER AFIELD

Ol' Blue Eyes and friends live on. Puttin' on the Ritz, a celebration of the golden era of popular song, comes to the Theatre Royal, Windsor, in August.

The star of the show is Syd Lawrence Orchestra vocalist and cabaret singer Tony Jacobs (pictured left), who is also well known for his critically acclaimed show The Sinatra Years. He's accompanied by Harrow resident John Barry, one of Britain's most versatile and accomplished pianists, who has made innumerable broadcasts with the BBC Radio Orchestra.

The show, inspired by the Supper Clubs and Cabarets of New York, celebrates the songs and songwriters of the 1900s to the 1940s.

It features the music of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Fats Waller and others, as well as paying tribute to great singers such as Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire and, of course, Sinatra.

Puttin' on the Ritz is at the Theatre Royal, Windsor, on Saturday, August 12 at 2pm. Tickets are £6-£25. Call the Box Office on 01753 853888.
