Aspiring young comedians in Southall are invited to Ealing Tertiary College's Southall Campus next month to learn the tricks of the trade from Britain's most celebrated Asian comedian.

Jeff Mirza, whose appearances include BBC1's Stand Up Show, BBC2's The Comedy Nation and ITV's Spotlight Asian, is holding a five-day workshop at the college in Beaconsfield Road from August 21 to 25 to pass on his skills to Southall youngsters.

Topics of the workshop include British Asian Comedy, Comedy in Bollywood, making up jokes, comedy, sketch performing and writing, and the most promising youngsters could get the chance to appear at an Asian Comedy Night in London.

The workshop is one of the activities organised by Ealing Tertiary College for Southall youngsters, which started on Monday and runs until August 25.

They include arts, sports, first aid, IT, revision classes, environmental projects and DJ classes as well as a five-day watersports trip to Queen Mary Reservoir in Ashford from August 7 until 11.

'We want to show youngsters new horizons for achievement and success in different areas, and boost their confidence and self-esteem,' said David Rooney, who is managing the activities for the college.

Activities are free and available for under 24s who live or study in Southall.
