LUCY PORTER is making a comeback on the stand-up scene after two-years off - but can you really call it that?

The stand-up comedian was pregnant for 18 of the 24 months and admits her new tour, ‘People Person’, is largely based on observations from her new life.

She said: "Oh it was really relaxing! Two kids in two years and I planned to have a year off. I got pregnant and I wasn’t quite expecting to have another one.

"I tried not to make the show entirely about having kids but when I came to write this show I realised I didn’t have much else to talk about."

The new angle to her stand-up is slightly different to her past comedy, which delved into current affairs and her younger years.

However, her feel-good material, which has received rave reviews, will appeal to audiences of all ages.

She said: "There is a natural thread throughout about how I met my friend Sophie, so a lot of it is about friendships and I go off on a tangent with other stories.

"The audience aren’t involved as much as they used to be and it’s more planned than my previous shows, where I would talk to the audience for 20 minutes towards the end."

She acknowledges the tour isn’t the most gruelling she’s faced but with husband Justin Edwards often away acting and children Emily, two, and John, one, still requiring her attention, she can’t afford to spend long spells away.

She said: "It’s the most leisurely tour you can imagine with 30 dates and a relaxed schedule.

"But I have to carry on touring so I can keep buying new shoes."

Lucy continues to write and perform in various shows for Radio Four but won’t be making a return to television anytime soon.

A few years ago, she made regular appearances on TV panel shows, including Mock The Week, Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Have I Got News For You but she won’t be returning to them in the near future.

She said: ""I am still vetoing TV shows because I still haven’t lost the baby weight.

"They were all great fun but I really like Never Mind The Buzzcocks because you get a great mix of drunk musicians and comedians.

"But I will still do all sorts of other stuff and I must say stand-up is my favourite."

But while she was away, the place she missed performing at most was the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where she made her comeback last summer before starting the tour in January.

She said: "It was really weird not being in Edinburgh. I’d been there every year since I was 18.

"The place is absolutely nuts and you party from dusk until dawn but there’s also stuff for kids."

Lucy will be playing at the Limelight Theatre in Aylesbury on Friday, May 24 at 8pm.

Tickets, which can be found via http://www.qpc.org, cost £12 for adults, £10 for concessions and £9 for members. You can follow Lucy on Twitter @lonnabimberton.
