A NATIONAL disability group is concerned about the effect of confusing welfare reforms on families with disabled children.
It follows a statement from Ealing Central and Acton’s Conservative MP, who hit out at the cycle of welfare dependancy and culture of entitlement created by the last Labour government.
Angie Bray defended the welfare reforms, which include changes to the new disability living allowance (personal independence payments).
“The main concern would be that families with disabled children are going to be poorer, and even harder hit,” said a spokesman for Contact A Family.
“We find the reforms very confusing, so I’ve no doubt families must be confused too,” he added.
The MP said debates on welfare reform often failed to look at fairness and affordability.
“While money is in such short supply we have to put this right and make sure the support we can give is directed at the most vulnerable,” she added.
Disability Minister Esther McVey will visit Ealing on Tuesday to discuss disability reforms with local groups.
