THE new headquarters housing Beaconsfield's girl guides paid for with £260,000 raised by it's fundraising committee should be opening its doors by August.

The group, which has nearly 200 members, have been meeting at local schools, churches and scout huts since the work began last October.

Guide and community fundraising events, donations and grants, including £52,000 through the Veolia Environmental Trust’s Landfill Communities Fund, have all contributed to the money raised.

Alan Walters, chairman of the fundraising committee, said: "It is very rewarding to see the new home for girl guiding in Beaconsfield taking shape. "All the girls and their leaders are looking forward to having our own hall again."

The new single-storey brick building will include a mezzanine floor for storage, a kitchen and disabled access while its predecessor suffered from damp and had no disabled access or toilets.

Pre-school, adult education and exercise groups will also use the new hall for their activities.
