North Ealing residents' campaign against HS2 gathers speed

NORTH Ealing residents held a fund-raising evening in Perivale on Saturday in their ongoing fight against the HS2 rail link.
North Ealing Against HS2 raised £975 in an evening that included live music from Bucks group Dirty Mavis, a quiz, and some homemade curry.
Members are concerned about sound pollution and traffic disruption from the proposed rail line, which aims to increase capacity between between London and Birmingham.
Cllr Edward Rennie (Lab, Perivale) said: “The whole project is a massive waste of money when the whole country is short of funds and we have very serious debt problems.”
HS2 could mean that Ealing loses 20 bridges, a scout hut in Perivale and Greenford and a block of eight flats in Ealing Park Lodge.
NEAHS2 also fears that a number of houses could be demolished and that the compensation offered to residents is inadequate.
Alex Nieora, its chairman, said he hoped that part of the £32.7bn cost would go toward ensuring the railway line was tunnelled, instead of running overground.
“It’s really brought the whole community together, and we’re seeing people of all generations come together as a family and saying: ‘We don’t want this'," he said
NEAHS2 will be holding a demonstration on March 23 in Dean Gardens, West Ealing.
