Cabinet reshuffled
A MAJOR reshuffle of Ealing Council's cabinet has been announced.
The reshuffle of the council's decision making arm, sees two new councillors bought into power and four of the existing poirtfolio holders taking up new positions.
Councillor Nigel Sumner, has been stripped of his health and community wellbeing title, while Councillor Ian Green has stepped down from the cabinet and will be the next mayor.
Councillor Jason Stacey, the council's leader, said: "I have had a change around of the portfolios to reflect a change in circumstances. For example, with the housing issue there is a lot of work to do in bringing Ealing Homes into line, and with Cllr Green due to become the next mayor, it seemed like a good time to do this.
"Two years into the administration it's good to test out some new faces. I only have seven spaces to fill and 43 councillors in the party it is inevitable there will be a change around from time to time."
One new face in the cabinet is Councillor Phil Taylor (Con, Northfields), who has been handed the task of looking after customer and community services, which include parking, the new heritage quarter and sports centre development.
He is joined in the cabinet by Councillor Mark Reen (Con, Northfield), who will be in charge of adult services and health.
The full list of cabinet members is:
Leader of the council - Councillor Jason Stacey
Adult services and health - Councillor Mark Reen
Children's services - Councillor Ian Gibb
Customer and community services - Councillor Phil Taylor
Environment and street services - Councillor Sue Emment
Finance and performance - Councillor David Scott
Housing - Councillor Will Brooks
Regeneration and transport - Councillor David Millican
Safer communities - Councillor Vlod Barchuk

Cllr Taylor is a fast rising star and undoubtedly has by far the most talent within the present cabinet. I'm confident it will not be too long before he emerges as the new leader.

Not surprised Nigel Sumner has been put out to pasture. Not soon enough though. Suppose he'll have more time to award himself [italic]all[/italic] the prizes in the best alotments contest from now on, not just some.

Does this mean that someone MIGHT, just MIGHT, do something about the garbage dump behind my house known as the Ascott Allotments? Perhaps the pile of rubbish just inside the Ranelagh Road entrance might get scraped away and the pile of rotting woodchip might be taken away? Might this mean that there is a chance that the shanty town on the so-called Ascot Allotments might be demolished and some allotment holders might be found who would actually grow some VEGETABLES per chance? Does this mean that the weeds and scrub and bushes just inside the Baillies Walk alloment fence might be cut down so that it is less threatening and enclosed and so that the shark spines of the blackberries do not keep growing back and ripping peoples clothes and skin as they walk along Baillies Walk... Go for it Councillor Taylor--make your mark; implement those By-laws... PLEASE!!!!
Maggie.
