De Canio leaves Rangers

QPR have announced that First Team Coach Luigi De Canio has left the club by mutual consent.

The news is a major surprise after the Italian guided the R's to mid-table since his arrival in October.

A statement on the official website said: "The club would like to place on the record its thanks to Luigi for his contribution to QPR and wish him all the best for a successful future."

De Canio introduced an entertaining, attacking brand of football to the Championship side and managed to guide Rangers to safety after taking over with them near the bottom of the table.

He was mugged recently in London and there were rumours that he was unsettled in England.

French legend Zinedine Zidane was linked with the hotseat at Rangers only last weekend but De Canio was still expected to start next season with QPR.

Club captain Gareth Ainsworth said: "It's a shock to all the players."
