Borough plan revealed

PLANS designed to help shape the future of developments in the borough's town centres have been revealed.

Top town planners were draughted in by Ealing Council to produce advice on how areas such as Southall, Park Royal, Acton and Ealing town centres should be developed.

Tibbalds, the firm charged with developing the Ealing plan, which includes West Ealing, came up with a number of proposals.

These include building bigger shop units to increase retail quality, developing the character of different areas including West Ealing and using the planned Green Man Lane Estate redevelopment to attract new investment.

Proposals for Southall include a new road bridge over the railway between Merrick Road and South Road, more schools and doctors surgeries and increased car parking.

Under the plan Acton should have better shops in Churchfield Road, changes will be made to the Town Hall site, links between rail stations and the town centre will be improved and there will be strong design for the South Acton Estate redevelopment.

Among ideas for improving the Southern Gateway in Park Royal, are creating a new community of 2,500 people in the industrial area, getting rid of the one-way system at Gypsy Corner by allowing a right hand turn from Horn Lane onto the A40 and the creation of a new urban park.

The plans are being put before the council's cabinet tomorrow night.

If adopted, the plan would be used by the council's planning committee to make decisions on applications by developers.
