Club could close in three weeks

| Councillors revoked the licence for The Palm Tree nightclub |
THE owner of a Greenford nightclub failed to show up to defend himself at a meeting where councillors took his licence away, because he claimed he had a meeting with his probation officer.
Nasir Khan, the owner of the Palm Tree Nightclub in Greenford Road, which is currently closed because it does not have adequate CCTV, now faces having to close the nightspot permanently.
At a meeting of the licensing committee, held at Ealing Town Hall on Wednesday morning, members were given a list of more than 30 occasions in two years when there had been breaches of the club's licence.
Councillors were also shown CCTV footage showing people coming out of the club attacking members of the public with a baseball bat.
Gary Grany, a barrister employed by the police for the case, told the meeting: "The management of the premises have shown a contemptuous attitude not only to the conditions of their licence, but a total inability or unwillingness to comply with police requests."
The existing licence held by the club did not allow for recorded or live music to be played, and required the premises to be cleared by 12.30am, as well as bouncers to be employed on the front door on Friday and Saturday nights.
However, the meeting heard how Mr Khan ignored these conditions, even hiring live bands to play, despite repeated warnings from the police and two previous licence reviews.
In October 2007 officers with sniffer dogs raided the club, which is based on the first floor above an amusement arcade, searching for class A drugs.
Mr Khan even opened the premises when police had ordered him to keep it closed, which lead to a closure order from the magistrates' court on January 31 this year, preventing him from opening until he had bought the CCTV up to acceptable standards.
Mr Grany continued: "The viewing screen for the CCTV system was kept in a residential property next to the club in a room which had been let out.
"The screen, which was supposed to be used to watch for incidents on the premises, had been switched off because the tenant of the room complained it was keeping her awake at night.
"There was also a lack of facilities for burning CDs from the computer, which is a requirement by law for helping the police with their inquries.
"On one occasion when the management were asked why there was not a recording of the previous 32 days as is required, they replied a power cut had wiped the hard drive. This would be the first time a power cut had that effect on a hard drive."
In passing the judgement, Councillor John Popham, chairing the panel, said: "I get the impression officers behaved responsibly and conservatively to try and get things resolved before bringing it to this point."

Probation? I always was led to believe that somebody with a criminal record couldn't be a licensee.
Close it.

Hahaha! It took THIRTY breaches of licence for the British to do something. What lazy **** the council is!
No wonder Ealing is a rubbish bin, it takes thirty illegal acts for anyone to do something about a criminal.
Sharpen up! What are you doing at work, playing with yourselves?
