Man jailed for kebab shop attack
A FATHER-OF-THREE was jailed yesterday for attacking a student in an Ealing kebab shop.
Glenroy Pilgrim, 29, of Twickenham Road, Twickenham, was sent to prison for 21 months for assaulting undergraduate Chris Mendez.
He had pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm.
The court heard a drunk Pilgrim had walked into the Euro Cafe, in The Mall, ignored the queue and banged on the counter for service.
Mr Mendez laughed at him and Pilgrim reacted by punching him to the ground and kicking him in the head, the court was told.
Sentencing, Recorder Patrick Talbot QC said: "You had been drinking. You had three or four vodkas and at 2.30am you went to get some food.
"You pushed and barged your way to the counter and you made your presence felt by banging a coin on the counter.
"Your conduct seems to have led Mr Mendez and his friends to laugh and joke.
"You left the cafe without your food and were followed out by Mr Mendez.
"You stared at him and without any warning you punched him twice in the left side of his head and he fell to the ground unconscious.
"You then made matters worse by kicking him twice in the head. You were wearing boots and he was seriously injured by your cowardly act."
Pilgrim's counsel, Ann Tayo, told the court her client had been drinking after hearing his father was dying.
She said when he went to get some food, he claims he was subjected to "monkey noises" and racist comments, although no witness made any mention of this.
Pilgrim has a long criminal record stretching back to his teens.

Glenroy Pilgrim eh? I see he played every card in the book to try and avoid jail - dying dad, the ubiquitous race card.
Given his habitual offending, would it be too much to ask the courts to send this moron on a permanent pilgrimage back to his country of origin?

Yes I am white, well done. I've also never battered anyone and tried to lie about it to the police. In fact, I've not assaulted anyone at all.
You will also notice that I have called for similar punishments for white criminals in the past, as I have done with Asian and European criminals. I'm probably not a racist to be honest, but thanks for playing the race card and proving my point about it's ubiquitous use in today's multicultural utopia.
