THE Beaconsfield Theatre Company offered this Neil Simons play set in the 60’s it tells of a young newlywed couple and the compromises they have to make in living together.
It is as relevant today as it was then. A Broadway hit it was a huge success winning many awards and is cleverly written and very funny. The two leads Sam Aspinall as Corrie and Rob Kenning as her husband Paul were both superb maintaining their American accents throughout with ease.
Kate Dicker played Ethel the interfering Mother with Phillip Sheahan as Victor Velasco the suave and quirky neighbour. Alvin Cohen was great as the repairman and Melvyn Saunders played the deliveryman.
The set was brilliant and the conversion from unfurnished in the first Act to lived in and beautifully represented in Act two is to be complimented. Lighting was impressive and the snow machine added to the overall effect.
Well directed by Cassie Sharp this was a light-hearted play but with insight into the problems facing a young couple embarking on their new life together. The audience demonstrated their enjoyment with hearty applause.
