THIS was my first pantomime of the season and I am sure it will not be my last .The Masque Players together with their youth group Masquerade presented their interpretation of the well known story.
Directed by Annie Hill it had all the elements one comes to expect of a pantomime. A feisty principal boy, a sweet princess, a simple character the others like to mock. It was a pleasant change to see a glamorous dame who performed superbly.
Besides a delightful good fairy and an evil character the children love to hiss and boo there was a very amusing cow and clever beanstalk which grew before our eyes. The singing was strong and the harmonies melodious.
There was some excellent lighting and the use of strobe lighting for added effect. The sound was good throughout which enhanced the performance. The sets were well designed and constructed and it was evident everyone had worked hard. The giant was very impressive and there was also a delightful harp and a scary spider for the younger members of the audience.
We had the usual audience sing song before the finish which was not too long but just right. A lively finale brought the evening to a close and judging by the audience reaction a good time was had by all.
