THE new season is upon us at the theatres in the county with a plethora of shows on offer from Swan Lake to Sing-A-Long-Grease to The Rocky Horror Show. Take a look at what's coming up at the Wycombe Swan, The Aylesbury Waterside Theatre and The Elgiva Theatre.

The Swan's pantomime Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs closes tomorrow and the new season starts with the glamorous, glitzy nights of the famous Sands Hotel in Las Vegas with The Rat Pack from January 17-19.

Then there is more for music lovers this January with Mozart by Candlelight (Jan 23), Think Floyd (Jan 24), Abba Forever (Jan 25) and Back to Broadway (Jan 26) and The Soldiers (Jan 27).

The theatre also welcomes back the Moscow City Ballet from January 28-31 with two signature pieces of their repertoire - Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

Later in the season, the mesmerising story of Birdsong comes to the Swan from February 12-16, brought to the stage in a version of Sebastian Faulk's bestselling novel. Following a highly successful season in the West End the UK tour includes award-winning actress Sarah Jayne Dunn (Drop Dead Gorgeous, Hollyoaks) Charlie G Hawkins (Eastenders), Arthur Bostrom (‘Allo, Allo), Tim Van Eyken (War Horse), Tim Treloar (National Theatre, RSC) and newcomer Jonathan Smith.

February also includes a wide-variety of one-night shows including the fully interactive Sing-A-Long-A Grease (Feb 2) and the passionate opera Carmen (Feb 17) directed by Ellen Kent. There is also the chance for audience members to be record-breakers in the science-mad live show of Guinness World Records: Officially Amazing Science Live! (Feb 23). In The Town Hall Fourways put on Catch 22 (Feb 7-9) and the Wycombe Swan Youth Theatre presents the comedy horror musical Little Shop of Horrors (Feb 21).

Direct from a sell-out season at Sadler's Wells in London comes the new production of Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty (Feb 26-March 3).

There are a number of one night shows in March with Marcus Brigstocke (Mar 1), Ruthie Henshall (Mar 3), Sally Morgan (Mar 5), Shazia Mirza (Mar 8), Puppetry of the Penis (Mar 9), Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Mar 10), Barry Cryer and Ronnie Golden (Mar 17), Chas and Dave (Mar 20), The Hairy Bikers (Mar 21) and Boogie Nights (Mar 25) featuring The Osmonds, Gareth Gates and Shane Richie Junior. Then from March 12-16 the anniversary production of Yes, Prime Minister will run, starring Michael Fenton Stevens (Sir Henry in ITV’s Benidorm) who will take on the role of beleaguered PM Jim Hacker, while opposite him Crispin Redman (known as Judge Richards in Law & Order: UK) will play Sir Humphrey Appleby and West End star Michael Matus (Taboo, Lend Me A Tenor) will perform the role of Principal Private Secretary, Bernard Woolley.

Then at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre there is plenty to tickle the tastebuds with one nighters from One Night In Vienna (Jan 17) and Brendan Cole: Licence to Thrill (Jan 20).

Then the spooky The Woman in Black comes to the theatre from Jan 21-16 followed by Maurice's Jubilee from Jan 29-Feb 2. It was the smash hit of Edinburgh 2012. It follows the story of Helena who for 60 years has been the Queen of Maurice's heart. But his great love is for her Majesty The Queen who Helena says he's never met.

Then from Feb 4-9 The Rocky Horror Show graces the stage with the 40th anniversary party production of Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show featuring a new cast for the show. Rumours of Fleetwood Mac comes to the stage on Feb 11, Colin Fry: The Higher Senses Tour on Feb 12 and BalletBoyz on Feb 14. Tickle your funny bones with Laurence Oliver award winning comedy.

The 39 Steps from Feb 18-23, a blissfully funny and wonderfully inventive yet gripping take on the Hitchcock classic featuring four fearless actors, playing 139 roles in 100 minutes of fast-paced fun and thrilling action. More comedy comes from the Birds of a Feather when original cast members Lesley Joseph, Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson reunite to bring back one the BBC’s most fondly remembers sitcoms from May 13-18.

Other shows include Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat (Mar 12-16), Goodnight Mister Tom (Mar 26-30) and The Mousetrap (Apr 8-13) Enjoy something classic with Spanish heat and Italian passion from the Ellen Kent Opera’s , Tosca and Carmen, a first class programme from The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and two wonderful productions from the Russian State Ballet and Orchestra of Siberia of Coppelia and Swan Lake. The Waterside’s LiveScreen programme continues to bring entertainment direct from world-famous theatres into their second space.

At The Elgiva in Chesham music is high on the agenda, particularly in February & March, here’s just a taster, Mercury- probably the best Queen replica around on Feb 2, The Lonnie Donegan Story featuring his son Peter Donegan on Feb 14, Solid Gold Country Legends on Feb 15, T.Rextasy on Feb 28 and Sounds of Simon & Garfunkel on March 1. A month or so after much more music follows with Voice of the Heart- a tribute to Karen Carpenter (Mar 21), the evergreen Barron Knights (Mar 22), Showaddywaddy (Mar 30), Desperado (Apr 12) and Purple Zeppelin (Apr 13), amongst others. Comedy sees the final tour of Phil Cool (Mar 2) and Marcus Brigstocke (Apr 6) visits for the first time, while there are children’s shows including High School Musical (Feb 7-9) then the extremely popular Milkshake! Live (Mar 24), featuring amongst others the fairytale The Elephant Bridesmaid (May 26).

January sees a host of new productions, with the classic Hans Christian Andersen’s enchanting story The Snow Queen (Jan 12), for music lovers Voodoo Room (Jan 26) pay tribute to legends Jimi Hendrix and Cream. The end of the month hosts a 21st Century investigation by retired murder squad detective, Trevor Marriot as part of the 125th anniversary of the infamous Whitechapel Murders involving Jack the Ripper (Jan 30) and something completely different the next day when agenda-setting author Germaine Greer presents 40 Years of Fun and Feminism on Jan 31, expect this unique close encounter to be candid, enlightening and highly entertaining.
