Iconic images of famous musicians, politicians and comics, a series of architectural studies, a collection of paintings of temple doors in Cambodia, artworks painted in acrylics, watercolours or sketched entirely in Biro are all done by one artist.

Bert Page’s first exhibition doubles as a portfolio of all the types of art work he has done to date, and demonstrates the wide variety of sources he takes his inspiration from.

“It’s my portfolio,“ explains Bert, 32, who is presenting Bert Page Introspective at Lauderdale House in Highgate Hill.

“I get my inspiration from pretty much whatever takes my fancy – it’s pretty whimsical! I don’t know whether this would be considered unsophisticated, but I just like the imagery. My work isn’t an essay appealing to the art community, it’s just a case of if I think it would look good, then I’ll paint it. It’s as simple as that.“

Bert’s collection includes a series of acrylic paintings of temple doors that caught his eye when he was travelling around Cambodia, and which he painted when he arrived home in North Finchley, from photographs he had taken.

“I’ve always been interested in Angkor Wat and all the temples around there,“ says Bert. “The paintings of those and my portraits will be the largest groups of work in the exhibition.

“They’re not exactly pop art, but they’re quite modern. I do fairly graphic work, by and large.“

Bert’s preferred medium these days is acrylics, after having gone through various stages in which he experimented with other mediums, but the exhibition also features a couple of watercolours as well as two A3-sized pictures that he drew in Biro pen.

As well as his painting career, Bert is also a music teacher, member of a jazz band, and a teacher at Inchbald School of Interior Design near Victoria.

Visitors to the exhibition will be invited to register for a free draw to win a Bert Page original painting of Lauderdale House, which will be drawn on the final day of the exhibition.
