If a restaurant is packed on a Monday night, you know you're onto a good thing.
And the newly refurbished Royal Saracens Head on Beaconsfield was just that. Attracting a range of clientele, from couples to families, and groups of friends of all ages, the former Beefeater is clearly a firm favourite in the town.
It's easy to see why. The decor is stunning, with pink squishy couches in the bar, and a modern looking dining area, complete with wooden tables, flooring, and the squishy couches again.
The menu is also a treat. Some places try to wow you with the massive range of dishes they can whip up, but the Royal Saracens Head menu is more compact, but still diverse. Pizza, pasta, salad, steaks, chicken, and a wide range of seafood mean that all tastes are catered for. There is a good selection of starters, as well as sharing plates of bread, cheese and antipasti.
The shared plate of garlic, parmesan and rocket flat bread was delicious, and just the right size for two. Although combined with the crusty bread and oil which arrived at our table, it made for a very filling, but very tasty starter.
Fish is one of the specialities at the Royal Saracens Head, and their tuna steak was cooked to perfection.
Chargrilled on the outside, and tender on the inside, it was complemented by asparagus, carrots, cauliflower, and a side order of crispy new potatoes.
And washed down with a glass of chilled Pinot Grigio rose, it was a lovely dining experience.
Pizzas in pubs can often be a bit hit or miss, but with fresh chunks of mozzarella and a light homecooked base, the range at the Royal Saracens Head can rival any pizzeria.
Daily specials add variety to the menu, and there are even a selection of special desserts, to add to the aready mouthwatering selection of sweet goodies on the menu.
Some tables at the restaurant have couches as well as chairs. Sitting on sofas is not always conducive to good digestion, but the table is at exactly the right height, and after you have devoured your meal, it's bliss to sit back and enjoy another glass of wine, a liquer or freshly brewed coffee.
With friendly, attentive staff, and a relaxed vibe, the Royal Saracens Head is a jewel in the middle of Beaconsfield.
