Panda Players at the Elgiva

TO celebrate the end of the 20th anniversary year for the Panda Players a toe tapping performance of Calamity Jane is coming to The Elgiva theatre.

The Panda Players were formed when a group of friends decided to produce a show to raise money for the World Wildlife Fund and chose the King and I in 1990.

The show was a storming success and the group of Panda Players based in Amersham and Chesham was formed- named after the symbol from the WWF.

This year the amateur dramatics group has held a host of celebrations and are looking forward to their show in Chesham.

Kathryn Spooner, who is part of the chorus, said: “It is a real feel good factor show. There is quite a few favourite songs that the audience will know and remember.

“There is a good happy ending like all these old fashioned shows. It is easy to follow.”

The stage show is based on the 1953 Wild- West themed film which explores the relationship between Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok.

In a quirky coincidence Doris Day who played the lead role in the film has the same surname as Joanne Day who will play Calamity Jane at the Elgiva.

The audience will recognise award winning songs such as The Windy City, The Deadwood Stage and Secret Love.

Calamity Jane is at the Elgiva, Chesham from Wednesday 10 to Friday March 12 at 7.45pm and Saturday March 13 at 2.30pm and 7.45pm. Tickets range from £10 to £15. For tickets call 01494582900 or go to www.elgiva.com.
