Popular jazz artist at Marlow

4:32pm Sunday 21st February 2010

Author, political activist, but most importantly one of the most thrilling and talked about jazzmen on the current International scene, the one and only Gilad Atzmon returns to Marlow Jazz Club on Tuesday February 23 after an absence of over three years.

The dynamic and extrovert Israeli-born musician plays all sizes of saxophones plus clarinet and originally came to attention in the field of Rock as a member of the Ian Dury Blockheads.

Since turning to jazz and settling in this country he has attracted enormous attention through some quite sensational music, but also his writings and strongly held views on the world in general.

He continues to be in demand outside of jazz and has appeared with Robbie Williams, Sinead O'Connor and Paul McCartney to name just a few. He has recently been touring with a string section and receiving rave reviews recreating the Charlie Parker And Strings dates back in the 1940s and 50s, but willingly accepted the Jazz Club's invitation to return to Marlow and play some other Charlie Parker favourites with the resident Frank Toms Trio.

The Club are delighted to have a major star playing for them and it should turn out to be a memorable gig. It's at the Royal British Legion Hall, staring at 8.30pm and with admission at £7.Pay on the door, no advance booking.
