All you need is love

Guaranteed to bring comfort to you and a smile to your face, Mummy... is for all those parents who realise that this is the hardest job in the world.

“When you have a serious responsibility, and a hard decision to make about your child, it can be daunting to know just what to do,” says Bushey Heath-born author Katie Rodinsky.

“I wrote this because all the parenting books out there are so judgemental and repetitive.”

And, as a mum of five, all under the age of seven, Katie should know what she’s talking about.

“I thought it was time that this book was written. I want to celebrate the fact that every child is different. I wanted to make mothers feel better, not to make them feel like a failure.

“I decided to write the book honestly, using my own experiences. I tell people about what I’ve done and the outcomes, whether good or bad. I hope readers will treat my book like a friend.

“All the books out there are so serious. They all say practically the same things and some are written by people who have never been a parent.

“Parents have such huge expectations of themselves and their children brought on by the media and these books. Life always throws something at us and things don’t always work out the way we plan it.

“I believe as long as you’ve got your child’s best intentions at heart and don’t do anything bad or unjust, all you really need to think about is giving your child love.

“I wanted to make light of some of the heart-warming situations I have found myself in with my husband Paul and my children.”

However, for Katie parenting has not always been a laughing matter. The former St Hilda’s pupil recalls how when she was 14 her mother walked away from their Heathborn Road family home leaving Katie as “mother of the house”.

“Idon’t have many fond memories of growing up. I suppose I’m over-the-top now with my children which I think does drain me. I’m only 33, yet sometimes I feel like 83,” quips Katie.
