David Berguer, local historian and author of The Friern Hospital Story, is giving a talk on the once famous Colney Hatch asylum.
He will reveal the fascinating history of the hospital, from its beginnings as the second Middlesex County Pauper Lunatic Asylum in the early 1800s, through to ‘care in the community’ in the 1990s and its eventual closure. He will also chart the history of mental health care and treatment over the last 160 years.
