Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) play an integral role in the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). They work with police officers providing vital services on the front line and are an important link for local communities to the rest of the organisation.
By providing the capital with an increased visible police presence, PCSOs reassure the public. They also provide support to police officers, enabling them to use their specialist skills to tackle crime.
PCSOs receive many benefits including generous basic pay package and annual leave entitlement, free travel on London’s buses and the possibility of flexible working hours. PCSOs receive a salary of up to £27,000 depending on location and shift disturbance allowance.
There are no formal educational requirements; however you will need to have a reasonable standard of English. You need to be at least 18 and of good character as the position carries a high level of responsibility and trust.
Though the training will equip you with key skills, there are certain qualities you must possess. You should be a team player, able to act on your own initiative and be able to remain calm and approachable in challenging situations. The role also requires someone who shows consideration for others and respect for diversity.
