'I will have to face his death'

THE mother of a teenager murdered almost four years ago said she is scared of the day police tell her they have captured his killer.
Vanessa Hyman said she could only cope with the mystery surrounding the brutal murder by living in a "bubble" for the sake of her other two children.
Her 17-year-old son Anton was found dead in the River Brent near High Lane, Hanwell, on Mothering Sunday, March 21, 2004.
The teenager had been stabbed and shot in the back but, while ten people have been arrested, no one has been charged over the murder.
Mrs Hyman, of Joseph Avenue, Acton, said she still has no idea who killed her son or why.
She said: "People ask me how I cope and get on with life and my response is I have put myself in a bubble and I have accepted that what happened to Anton is real life.
"I do not have to step out of my bubble until such a time as they find his killer and to be honest I am very scared of that time.
"Although I want it, I am scared of it happening because I will have to face his death."
Detectives marked the fourth anniversary of the murder this week, launching a fresh appeal for information.
They hope a reward of up to £20,000 will help break the wall of silence surrounding the case.
Since her son's death, Mrs Hyman, who has a ten-year-old daughter and a baby son, has campaigned against violence among young people in London.
In 2005 she led a protest march from Ealing Hospital, in Uxbridge Road, to Acton Park, on what would have been his 18th birthday.
Anton was last seen just after 8pm the night before he was found between Greenford Avenue and Brent Valley Park, Hanwell.
The black teenager was wearing distinctive bright multi-coloured woolly gloves, blue and white Timberland boots, and a dark grey fleece.
Detective Inspector Anthony McKeown said those behind the attack remain a danger to others.
He said: "We are committed to solving this case and finally being able to provide the answers to the questions that Anton's family and friends need to know.
"For four years they have been haunted by the questions who killed him? and why?
"There are people in the local community who can answer those questions or at least have a suspicion as to who was responsible.
"We need those people to contact police and speak to us.
"Some have already come forward and provided information to police concerning Anton's death, and for that we are grateful.
"But we still need those with actual evidence to have the courage to come forward and ensure those responsible are prosecuted.
"Those who murdered Anton are a danger to society and need to be caught, if you can help the investigation please contact us in the strictest confidence."
